A delegation led by Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China Li Zhanshu visited the Carpet Museum.

During the tour, the Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev and the director of the museum Shirin Malikova informed the guests about the ancient carpet weaving traditions in our country.

It was noted that the museum's collection, which reflects the main artistic trends of Azerbaijani carpet art, demonstrates the harmony of the unique beauty, the materials used, the textile techniques, the delicate and deep artistic features of the carpets.

It was noted that the collection of the carpets of the gold fund, which contains the "gold fund", also contains rare examples of non-woven carpets.  Here are examples of carpets from seven main schools of Azerbaijan - Guba, Baku, Shirvan, Ganja, Gazakh, Karabakh and Tabriz.  Carpets are works of art reflecting the lives and lives of the people, enriched with human, animal, bird, plant ornaments.

It was noted that thanks to the great efforts of First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, national carpet art was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List on November 16, 2010 and is celebrated as the Day of Azerbaijan Carpets in our country.

After visiting the museum, Li Zhanshu noted his impressions in the museum's book.

He said that the carpet collection presented cannot be compared anywhere.  This art reflects the cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people and contributes to the whole world.

The guest also said that there are schools in China that are engaged in carpet weaving in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia.  Of course, carpets woven by Chinese are distinguished by their technology and are different from those of Azerbaijani carpets.

“I would like to note with regret that young people are now far removed from this art and the number of carpet weavers is steadily declining.  This could lead to the Chinese carpet-making tradition being forgotten, ”added Jiang.

Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev proposed sharing the traditions of carpet weaving and secrets of both countries.  In turn, Cankou stressed that this would have a positive impact on the preservation of the world's cultural heritage.

The guest was presented a book and carpet dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.
